- 1/2 medium yellow onion, medium dice
- 3 medium garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 tsp thyme
- 4 cups (1 quart) low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 cups water
- 1 tsp salt
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
