Sweet Potato Pie Smoothie (Gluten Free, Dairy Free). A 6-ingredient recipe for a creamy, thick sweet potato pie smoothie bursting with fall flavors that contains over 18 grams of protein with Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides.
If you live in New England like I do, the transition to fall can leave you feeling a bit ungrounded.
One day it’s 85 degrees and sunny and the next day 60 degrees and raining.
This time of year can be both mentally and physically taxing. Schedules change, more work and family obligations, and our bodies begin to crave more grounding and warming foods.
Many of my clients and you, my readers, still like the grab-and-go convenience of smoothies during the colder months but as the seasons change, it’s important that the foods we eat—
including the ingredients in our smoothies— change to support our optimal health: physically, mentally and emotionally.
During the fall we want to concentrate on keeping our digestive fire strong with warming spices and foods. In Ayurveda, our digestive fire extends beyond how we digest food. It is also the seat of our awareness and intelligence. It’s where we digest thoughts and emotions and a strong digestive fire boosts our immunity and can ward off disease.
Frozen fruit, and raw foods, a mainstay in most smoothie recipes damages the health of digestive fire. Frozen fruit suppresses our digestive fire while too many raw foods
are hard to digest and create ample fodder for parasites, stomach cramping and bloating.
Sweet Potato Pie Smoothie
This Sweet Potato Pie Smoothie contains cinnamon, a warming spice to keep your digestive fire strong and seasonally appropriate sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes are supportive for digestion as they contain ample fiber to encourage good elimination. They are also rich in complex carbohydrates, which can keep you satisfied for long stretches.
Along with seasonally appropriate ingredients, this smoothie also contains Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides. Two scoops of this collagen contains 18 grams of protein in addition to supporting bone and joint health. Protein, especially in the morning, is a key dietary component as it promotes satiety, helping you feel full for longer periods of time and controling blood sugar swings. Read about the additional health benefits of Collagen and why I consumer it here.
